ZZ Top:
An American Blues-rock band formed in Houston, Texas, hold the distinction of being one of the few rock groups still composed of its original members; Billy Gibbons (guitar and vocals), Dusty Hill (bass guitar and vocals), and Frank Beard (drums). Nearly as well-known as their music is the group's appearance: Gibbons and Hill are always pictured wearing "Cheap Sunglasses," similar (if not matching) clothing, and their trademark chest-length beards while, perhaps ironically, Beard sports a mustache but not a beard. Their song lyrics often feature sexual innuendo and humor.
The origin of the band's name is derived from the name of blues master B.B. King. They wanted to call themselves Z.Z. King but sounded too similar to their blues legend hero. They figured that "King" was at the "top" so thus settled on ZZ Top.
3 Doors Down: 3 Doors Down brought Southern Rock back to prominence with their hit debut album in 2000. Ever since The Better Life was released, 3 Doors Down have been a mainstay on the radio dial and on the concert circuit. 3 Doors Down tour dates are currently scheduled internationally to promote their upcoming fifth disc. The band was formed in 1996 with friends Brad Arnold (vocalist), Matt Roberts (guitarist), and Todd Harrell (bassist) in their native Escatawpa, Mississippi. They were high school students playing cover music and trying to hone their skills for several years before putting together an official demo. They recorded and produced their first hit single "Kryptonite" in 1999 which was featured on their EP and garnered the attention of a local radio station. The band was flown to New York for a showcase at the legendary CBGB music club and eventually signed to Republic Records. Knowing that they already had a radio hit on their hands with "Kryptonite", the bandmates quickly produced and recorded The Better Life in 2000. The album was a runaway success and has been certified six times Platinum in the United States and remains their best selling album to-date. 3 Doors Down tour dates were scheduled on a national outing to support the album.
They returned in 2002 with Away from the Sun which featured the massively successful military anthem "Here Without You". The 3 Doors Down concert schedule included another international tour to support the album which has been certified four times platinum. They released Seventeen Days in 2005 which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, becoming their first #1 album. The guys teamed up with Lynyrd Skynyrd for the Seventeen Days Tour which heated up the Southern venues throughout the year. They released their self-titled fourth album in 2008 which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 becoming their second consecutive album to accomplish the feat.
The band has been busy recording material for their upcoming fifth album Time of My Life. In addition, they have embarked on an international headlining tour that has them traversing the world. They will be in the UK for a four-date tour in July, 2011 and will cross over to continental Europe to play several shows.
