September 2017 Meeting
Azure Functions and Serverless Architecture At Microsoft Build 2017, Satya Nadella said the future of computing involved an "intelligent edge" of smart devices, and an "intelligent cloud" that interprets telemetry from those devices and sends instructions back to other smart devices. At the center of the "intelligent cloud" are cognitive services (speech recognition, facial recognition, natural language interpretation, etc.) -- which take that smart device telemetry and process it on demand, using serverless technology. We won't build Nadella's vision during this talk. Instead, we'll look at Azure Functions from the developer's viewpoint: What is serverless? When does it make sense to use it? What do the design patterns look like? And how can you start using them? We will demo a couple examples of serverless, with lots of chances to ask questions and share experiences. About the Speaker Doug Vanderweide is a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Cloud Platform and Infrastucture, Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer: Azure Solutions Architect and CompTIA CTT+ Certified Technical Trainer. He has over 20 years' experience as a .NET and LAMP stack developer, and 5+ years' experience working with Azure. He's built real-world, mission-critical workloads in Azure Functions, and has spoken about serverless technology at a national conference and locally. Meeting location This month we are going to be meeting back at Chimy's located @ 1053 Foch St, Fort Worth, TX 76107 off of West 7th. We will be meeting in the dedicated space known as the Marfa Room. Food will be provided by our sponsor TekSystems.
